Here are the best cars from this year’s Munich Motor Show

This year’s IAA Mobility Show – often referred to as the Munich Motor Show – was a feast for those interested in the very latest cars. With a strong European show of strength, there were new releases from Volkswagen Group, alongside brands such as Renault and Mercedes.

But Chinese newcomers were still out in force, releasing a number of new models in what became a very busy show. Here are some the top highlights from this year’s event.

Cupra Raval and Tindaya

It was a big event for Spanish firm Cupra, which showcased its more production-ready Raval alongside the striking Tindaya concept. The Raval, which sits atop the same platform as the Epiq and ID. Polo, looks set to become the brand’s most affordable electric vehicle with an expected price tag of around £27,000.

In typical Cupra fashion, both cars have been released with a strong focus on design and technology.

Skoda Epiq and Concept O

Skoda wasn’t left out of the Volkswagen Group party, either, bringing the new Epiq which will fully launch next year as an electric alternative to the brand’s compact Kamiq. However, despite a compact size the Epiq aims to deliver a large interior with a well-sized boot.

The Czech firm also showcased what the future of its estate cars could look like with its Concept O. Launched to a packed crowd in the heart of Munich, the Vision O could showcase what a future Octavia might look like.

Volkswagen ID.Cross, ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI

Presented to much fanfare, the Volkswagen ID. Polo kickstarts a new process which will see many of the brand’s well-known and trusted model names transferred over to electric vehicles. It’s the same underneath as the Epiq and Raval but whereas those two a compact SUVs, the Polo is far closer to a traditional hatchback.

There was something for performance enthusiasts, too, with a concept version of the ID. Polo GTI being revealed too, while the new ID. Cross looks set to take the spot as one of the brand’s most affordable EVs.

Mercedes GLC

Mercedes wasn’t letting Volkswagen Group have all the fun, either, as it showcased its new GLC to the public for the first time. Bringing an electric replacement for one of the brand’s most-popular SUVs, the electric GLC showcased some next-level technology from Mercedes, alongside a controversial new front-end design.

Sitting alongside the GLC at the Mercedes stand was the new electric CLA Shooting Brake.

Polestar 5

Polestar has been quickly expanding its range of electric vehicles over the last few years and that momentum has been kept up with the 5. Effectively a production-ready version of the brand’s Precept concept, the Polestar 5 is a long, sweeping model which offers up to 416 miles from a charge.

Clever 800-volt architecture also means that the 5 can accept a rapid rate of charge of upt to 350kW.

Porsche 911 Turbo S

It wouldn’t be a Munich Motor Show without a reveal from Porsche and the German firm didn’t disappoint. Alongside some clever wireless charging technology, Porsche unveiled its latest 911 Turbo S which arrives with the title of the brand’s most powerful 911 to date.

It’s also equipped with active aerodynamics which can open and close the forward cooling flaps depending on the driving situations.

Scout Terra

While the Scout Terra pick-up isn’t coming to Europe, it was one of the biggest crowd-drawing vehicles of the show. Equipped with a hybrid engine, the Scout Terra looked almost comically large agains the other European-focused cars it was lined up with on the Volkswagen Group main stage.

Though not slated for UK introduction, there’s always a chance that the Terra could come here if demand were high enough.

Xpeng P7

Chinese outfit Xpeng had a big stand at this year’s show and one of its key models was the new P7. With a range of up to 354 miles, this electric model really turned heads in its striking lime-green launch colour.

Xpeng says that the P7 can manage 0-60mph in just under four seconds, too.

Leapmotor B05

Leapmotor – which sits underneath the Stellantis umbrella of brands alongside manufacturers such as Peugeot and Citroen – has already started selling a few compact models in the UK, but looks set to enter the mainstream with its Golf-sized B05.

There are very few details surrounding the B05 for now, but it’s expected to have a range of around 260 miles.

BMW iX3

BMW’s iX3 represents a big step forward for the brand and that’s probably why it had such a key spot on the brand’s stage. With up to 500 miles coming from a single charge, it’ll offer the longest range of any electric vehicle available in the UK when it arrives in 2026.

We’ve already been informed that it’ll start at £58,755, too.
