AGLISH man Pat Horan has made an extraordinary return to the world of Autocross taking this discipline of motorsport by storm after a 43-year absence from competitive racing.

Pat’s comeback culminated in an impressive showing, and a fantastic night was had by all at the 2024 Autocross Night of Champions at The Lady Gregory Hotel in Gort recently.

In a remarkable season, Pat registered for three championships, and the results were nothing short of spectacular. By the end of the year, he had claimed 1st overall in the Shannon Trophies National Grass Championship, 1st overall in the Munster Autocross Championship (in association with Eamonn Barrett Transport & CJN Plant Ltd.), and 3rd overall in the Tallybrooke Civil Engineering National Loose Autocross Championship. On top of that, he was awarded the prestigious Competitor of the Year title for 2024 by John Delaney Photography

Pat took a notion to register for the three Autocross Championships last year, and after a shaky start at the first round in Limerick he got to grips with the Peugeot 208 R2 (his first time competing with front wheel drive) and enjoyed it more and more every event. He thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie at all the events all year and would like to say well done to all clubs involved in running top class events throughout the year.

Pat, who is a founding member of the Birr & District Motor Club, has always been a strong advocate for the sport. In December 2024 Pat was also awarded The JC Millard Memorial Award for Clubman of the Year for his outstanding dedication to his club, at the Motorsport Ireland Champions of Irish Motorsport Awards.

Not bad for an OAP!
