Six-month road ban for motorist caught speeding in Offaly

A MAN was disqualified from driving for six months after being found guilty of speeding in Birr.
Martin Connors (30), 2 Templeview Avenue, Clarehall, Dublin 13, was summonsed by Garda Donal Casey for speeding at Military Road, Birr on February 17 last.
Garda Casey told Tullamore District Court that at 10.50am on that date Mr Connors was recorded driving at 74kph in a 50kph zone.
A fixed charge penalty notice was issued but it was not paid. Garda Casey said the accused had 18 previous convictions, including three for speeding, one which involved exceeding 120kph in Naas and resulted in a €650 fine.
Donal Farrelly, solicitor, appeared for Mr Connors but said his client was not in court.
Along with the driving ban, Judge Andrew Cody fined the man €200 but also fixed recognisances for an appeal.
