Roscrea boasts an embarrassment of riches in terms of extraordinary historical sites and the jewel of the crown - Roscrea Castle and Damer House - will soon benefit from a welcome upgrade.

Tipperary County Council has granted permission, with conditions, for a new café to open at Damer House located in Roscrea Castle.

The Commissioners for Public Works in Ireland (OPW) have been given the go-ahead, with certain conditions, to transform the ground floor of the annex from a visitor centre or museum into a café.

Damer House on Castle Street in Roscrea, a large building built around 1728, opens to the public as a heritage centre.

Plans submitted for the eighteenth-century building included a change of use from a visitor centre/museum to a café in the ground floor of the annex building.
