It's illegal to hunt hares without a licence.
TWO men were recently caught illegally hunting hares in West Offaly.
They were arrested by Ferbane Gardaí, who were working in tandem with members of the National Parks and Wildlife Service. The Gardaí seized their equipment and a prosecution is pending.
Hares are a protected species under the Wildlife Act, and hunting them without a specific licence or during closed seasons can lead to significant fines, confiscation of equipment, and potential imprisonment.
