TIPPERARY'S County Librarian Damien Dullaghan told a recent meeting that there's been a big increase in the number of people using the county's libraries during 2024.
“Our libraries are doing very well,” he told the Councillors of Nenagh Municipal District. “They are now back to pre-Covid numbers. The libraries in Cloughjordan, Borrisokane and Nenagh are all doing extremely well. There are now about 100,000 visitors to Nenagh Library per year.”
Cllr Michael O'Meara said this was great news, adding that the librarians in Borrisokane and Cloughjordan are “very helpful”. The Councillor added that improvement works outside Borrisokane Library had been proposed many months ago and he hoped these hadn't been forgotten about.
Mr Dullaghan said they didn't have enough money to do the external works at Borrisokane. “Our energy costs across the county's 12 branches are very high, therefore we didn't have enough funds left.” He didn't rule out the works and said they still might be done.
Cllr Pamela Quirke-O'Meara remarked that it's obvious that the library service has moved forward with the times, and therefore is doing well.
“I also think that the development of outdoor areas for outdoor learning would be a very good thing,” the Councillor said.
