Main Street Borrisokane
A new car park is badly needed in Borrisokane, a local councillor has said.
Cllr Michael O'Meara is asking Tipperary County Council to revisit the idea of a car park for the town.
He raised the matter during a recent meeting of Nenagh Municipal District, and pointed out that a new car park would be the "last piece of the jigsaw" for the town, following the long-awaited stormwater and main street improvement projects which were completed at the end of 2020 at a cost of €5 million. He said Borrisokane is now thriving and is doing better than many other towns of a similar size, attracting new business and people who want to live there. “Borrisokane has been transformed because of the works. There are good pubs, good places to eat. However, parking is quite a problem. Everyone in the town is saying it to me. The problem means drivers have to double-park on the street at times.”
Cllr Joe Hannigan said the idea had been raised a few times before during Council meetings in 2020 and it was time to resurrect it.
“Borrisokane has been transformed for the better. Everyone admires it, but I agree with Michael that this needs to be done.” He said the town is also in need of a pedestrian crossing on the main street. “It's a busy national secondary road and can be quite dangerous.”
