Three Offaly villages benefit from significant funding to combat dereliction

Killeigh Community Centre

Funding has been allocated for the development of a new community centre in Killeigh

A total of €450,000 has been allocated to three villagers in Offaly to combat dereliction.

The successful projects include  €100,000 each in funding for Ballyboy and Clonbullogue and €250,000 for Killeigh.

The funding is being provided under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme as part of Our Rural Future policy and places a strong emphasis on projects which tackle vacancy and dereliction by bringing landmark town centre buildings back to life.

“In Ballyboy village a green space and recreational area will be developed, including landscaped area with seating, lighting and amenity car parking area. A “People’s Park” at the river amenity in Clonbullogue village and a safe bridge link forming a looped River Walk accessible to all will be completed, revealed Deputy Barry Cowen.

“This funding will see the refurbishment of the vacant Macra Hall, in Killeigh into a modern remote working hub as part of a multifunctional community space serving Killeigh village and its surrounding hinterlands.”

The funding allocation for Killeigh has also been welcomed by local fine Gael councillor Neil Feighery.
