THE inaugural Offaly Express Pub of the Year Awards took place last Monday night at which the winners in the various categories were presented with their awards by the Managing Director of Johnston Press (Leinster) Joe Flaherty.

It’s the reason many of us are let out the house on a Sunday, to watch the match. With the Rugby World Cup well under way the Best Live Sports category is one for which we all have our favourites.

Offaly has always had a great tradition for live entertainment. On a weekend, people of all ages are spoiled for choice with the amount of bars with the best of bands playing in them.

Best Bar Food
Offaly has a great selection of places to eat, offering serving everything from Soup and Sandwiches to Pub Grub and full A la Carte Menus. The public are very impressed with the quality and more importantly the value to be had across the various venues that were nominated.
Winner - Brewery Tap
Best Pint of Guinness
This category received a huge number of votes proving that Offaly men and women still love their pint of Guinness.
Winner – The Old harbour Bar
Best NightClub / Nite-Spot
The region is known all over the country for its great night-life and that’s proven when you walk into any of the Bars, Clubs or Restaurants at week-ends.
Winner – The Bridge House
Best Hotel Bar
In Offaly, we are lucky to have some of the finest hotels in the country, and not surprisingly, we received a high volume of votes for those that were nominated, and the overall winner for this category:
Winner - Tullamore Court Hotel
Best Outdoor/Garden Area
Since the smoking ban came in, Bars & Clubs all over Offaly, and indeed the country, have customized, extended or built fabulous areas for people to relax in and have a chat and a drink with friends – and these are not just for smokers, but for everyone to enjoy:

Bar Person of the Year
This category was always going to be a tight one as we all have our favourite bar person, and it’s the friendly staff that can really make a difference to your visit to any venue.
The winner of the inaugurual Offaly Express Barperson of the Year award is Olive Gallagher from Gallagher’s Manor
The winner of the Barperson of the year received a trophy and also a weekend break at the Hilton Hotel in Dublin.
Overall Offaly Express Pub of the Year 2011
The competition was fierce - A deserved winner – Gallagher’s Manor is the Offaly Express ‘Pub of the Year’ 2011.
