THE young boy was speechless with delight at meeting his sporting hero, however his mother was adamant that he should say a few words to Offaly football captain Niall McNamee.

She nudged him in McNamee’s direction but the boy was mortified at this stage. Fortunately the captain noticed the boy’s distress and took the time for a brief chat and to sign an autograph.

McNamee was in Tullamore last Friday afternoon to perform the official opening of the new Oxfam charity shop on Patrick Street.

By the time he arrived mid afternoon the shop had been open for business for a few hours and all the volunteers were run off their feet keeping the shelves stocked.

See this week’s Offaly Express for full report and more pictures from the opening
