Tullamore’s oldest resident celebrated another milestone birthday yesterday (Monday April 30) when she marked her 102nd birthday with a party for family and friends at the Consolation Nursing Home, Arden Road.
Mai McArdle was born in Mountmellick on April 30, 1910. Her mother was Mary Wrafter from Ballyduff House, Clara Road, Tullamore (now Leah Victoria Park) and her father came to Tullamore as Clerk of Works of the building firm that built the Church of the Assumption. Mai spent her working life in the hotel industry in Ireland and the UK. She returned to Tullamore in the late 1970s where she lived at Moorhill House until 2000 when she moved to the Consolation Nursing Home.
Mai continues to take a keen interest in current affairs through newspapers, radio and television and she has a remarkable memory.
