Clara Band prepares for GAA official opening

THE Clara Town Band held their third annual gala concert on Friday, April 20 in Clara GAA Centre.

THE Clara Town Band held their third annual gala concert on Friday, April 20 in Clara GAA Centre.

The nights entertainment began with the Band of the 4th Western Brigade conducted by Captain Fergal Carroll playing the national anthem followed by an hour’s entertainment of music which included: The Willows of Winter, Music from Glee, Lady Gaga Dance Mix and The Galway Girl to mention a few.

A number of marches were also played including National Emblem, Luftwaffe and Bravua. The audience tapped and clapped along to a most enjoyable performance.

Following the interval the Clara Town Band conducted by Keith Kelly took to the stage and entertained the large audience to The Incredibles, True Colours, Somewhere Out There and I’m A Believer. The second band performed The Lost City and March of the Romans, this was for many their first public appearance.

The Clara Town Band continued the concert with Defying Gravity, March of the Penguins, Don’t Stop Believing, Sesame Street, and a favourite of the night Salute To Mozart.

During the concert the Band Awards for 2011 were presented by Fr Keary to the following: Band Person of the Year Margaret Fleming, Most Improved Musician of the Year Leo Rabbitte and Junior Member of the Year Lisa Fitzpatrick. A special award was presented to Mary Touhey for her outstanding commitment to the band.

The final numbers were Groovee and You’ll Never Walk Alone.

The night concluded with a raffle with spot prizes kindly donated by: Samantha’s Beauty Salon, Clara House Holistic Spa, Sisters Hair Salon, Mavis Hair Salon, Teresa’s Flowers, Pettit’s Pharmacy.

The Clara Town Band committee would like to most sincerely thank the following for their huge support: Band of the 4th Western Brigade for their outstanding performance on the night, all the business who sponsored the band with advertisements in the programme, donations and spot prizes, to all the families of the band members for ticket sales and to the audience on the night who without the concert would not be possible.

The band’s next outing will be on Sunday, May 20 for the official opening of the Clara GAA grounds in Kilcoursey. Anyone interested in joining the band please contact the secretary Marian Fitzpatrick on 087 1549481.
