Birr volunteers sign up for Happy Heart Weekend

Lend a hand, save a heart was the message from Fair City’s Tom Hopkins as he signed up volunteers from Offaly to help raise half a million Euro for the Irish Heart Foundation’s 23rd Happy Heart Weekend (Friday, May 10 to Sunday, May 12) appeal.

With support from staff in Lidl Ireland and the media team at 2FM, the Irish Heart Foundation is calling on the people of Offaly to volunteer and raise vital funds to provide FREE heart disease information and helpline support for heart and stroke patients.

Every €2 raised from the sale of happy heart badges will help stop 13 people dying suddenly every day from heart attack and stroke in Ireland.

Using her time to make a difference is exactly what Birr volunteer Margaret Guilfoyle plans to do this Happy Heart Weekend.

Margaret said, “Everyone has been touched by heart disease and stroke and by volunteering I feel I am doing my bit to keep hearts beating. I feel good knowing that every happy heart I sell will help patients and families get the support and advice they need right here in Offaly and around the country.”
