The new disabled parking bay at O'Connell Street in Birr.
A NEW disabled parking bay has been provided at O'Connell Street in Birr.
Cllr Audrey Hennessy Kennedy said “I’m absolutely delighted to see that, after months of ongoing meetings with the engineers, the new disabled parking on the Main Street has now been completed. These spaces will provide much, needed additional parking for people with disabilities.
“This particular bay has been designed for vehicles with wheelchair hoists at the rear, allowing users to safely deploy the hoist onto the footpath. This makes a significant difference to both wheelchair users and to the families or staff members who support them, ensuring safety, dignity, and ease of access,” she said.
“I have been advocating for this since I took up my role as a local councillor in the Birr MD area, and I’m very pleased to see it delivered. Improving accessibility on our Main Street is vital for everyone in our community.
“Thank you again to all involved. It cannot be emphasised enough how important this is for the safety and wellbeing of those who rely on these facilities,” Cllr Hennessy Kennedy added.
