Gardaí are appealing for information following an incident at the weekend in which shots were fired at a house in Portarlington.
A garda spokesperson revealed that in the early hours of Sunday, March 9, at approximately 3.30am, shots were fired at a house in the Crann Nua estate on the town’s Edenderry Road.
A number of people were in the house at the time, but fortunately no one was injured in the frightening ordeal. A garda forensic examination was carried out at the scene and marks were found on the wall and door of the property.
Although there are no descriptions of the culprits, the gardaí believe there was more than one person involved.
The gardaí are now looking for anyone in the area who may have witnessed anything to contact the garda station at 057 8674100.
“Somebody will have seen something,” said the garda spokesperson.
This is not the first time that Portarlington has been the scene of gun crime.
In September 2012, 27-year-old Gerard Eglington was shot several times in front of his two children in a gangland killing. Nobody has been detained in relation to the killing.
In November that same year, a drive-by shooting took place outside a local hotel.
