The “Best Chef in Offaly” Jamie Owens will once again pass on his award-winning expertise to children aged four to 14 at summer camps throughout July. Last year the popular summer camps were booked out and this year already a number of places have been snapped up, many by children who attended last year and enjoyed the camps so much they are going again.
From July 2 Jamie will run week-long cookery camps every week for the month of July. The camps will run daily from 9.30am to 12.30pm and the children will learn how to make pizza, pasta and a wide range of dishes.
All the ingredients will be included in the weekly fee of €60 and the children will learn about safe food preparation, nutrition and healthy eating. Last year the most popular dish was pizza which the children learned how to make from scratch.
An interesting aspect of the cookery camp is that the children learn where food comes from with live animals brought in on a daily basis. The animals come from Jamie’s Pet Farm where he will have Pet Camps in August where children will learn all aspects of caring for pets along with gardening and planting.
Also in July Jamie will be running Adult Cookery classes on July 10 and July 17. These evening courses which run on Tuesday nights from 7.30 - 9pm are geared for the novice and offer all the basics from bread making to pasta dishes and some seasonal BBQ tips. A cookery course would make a great Father’s Day gift for Dad - and of course, all the family can then benefit from his new found cookery skills.
Jamie’s Cookery classes can be booked by telephoning 083 354 1002.
