A LOT of lies have been told about Fine Gael’s public sector policy during the election campaign, according to local Fine Gael TD Charlie Flanagan who said he is determined to set the record straight.
“I know from my canvassing that there has been huge scaremongering in respect of Fine Gael’s desire to address inefficiencies in the public sector so that resources can be concentrated on the front line. Some other election candidates are distorting Fine Gael policy to disguise the fact that they have no real policies of their own.
“Fine Gael is absolutely committed to protecting frontline workers such as teachers, nurses, Gardaí, prison officers, doctors, administrative staff in key departments etc. However, we estimate 30,000 administrative positions can be reduced by natural wastage, voluntary redundancy and relocation. There will be no compulsory redundancies,” he said.
The Fine Gael Deputy said the party has shown by its actions that it is supportive of public sector workers.
