A man in his 20s with an address in has been charged with the murder of Christy Daly in the Offaly town last month.

Twenty-three year old Ross Allen, with an address at Kilmonaghan Lodge, Clara, was remanded in custody at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court this morning, Friday February 21.

The court was told that the defendant made no reply when charged at 9.29pm last night. Mr Allen was remanded to appear before Cloverhill District Court on February 27.

Mr Daly (47) was found dead in a drain off the isolated area Kilbride outside Clara on Tuesday, January 7. A subsequent autopsy showed he had been shot multiple times.
