O’CONNOR Park, Tullamore has hosted many great games over the decades, but perhaps the most unusual event it has hosted will be an open air mass on Saturday June 9 at 7.30pm.
This mass is being organised with the co-operation of the local parishes, explained the chief celebrant Tullamore’s parish priest Monsignor Sean Heaney.
“It is an opportunity for a larger local church community to come together to mark the holding of the International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin,” he explained.
It is also a chance for people who may not be able to attend the Congress in Dublin to participate. There will be no vigil masses that night and it is hoped that many people from the county will come to O’Connor Park. Bishop Michael Smith will be present for the special mass.
