EDENDERRY Gardaí are continuing to work from their fire damaged building after a blaze at the station on Monday morning last.
Gardaí are investigating the fire at the town’s garda station after it was discovered by a Garda Sergeant arriving for work. The fire was found shortly before 9am and the local fire service attended the scene and extinguished the fire.
The building was not occupied when the fire broke out.
The blaze caused considerable damage to a small downstairs office at the Edenderry station. There was extensive smoke damage to the reminder of the building with the bottom floor worst affected.
The building was cordoned off as the Garda scenes of crime units examined the building at the time. It is believed that alternative accommodation was being considered, following the incident.
However, a Garda spokesperson told the Offaly Express the local Gardaí are operating from the building, despite the damage to the station.
Investigation into the incident is continuing.
