Public meeting on Fire Station closures

THE Save Our Fire Stations in Offaly campaigners are holding a Public Meeting in Kilcormac Community Centre on Thursday, June 16, at 8pm.

THE Save Our Fire Stations in Offaly campaigners are holding a Public Meeting in Kilcormac Community Centre on Thursday, June 16, at 8pm.

The organisers are hoping that community people from all over the county will turn out in force to show their support for the campaign.

The six Oireachtas members from the Laois/Offaly Constituency along with the twenty-one elected members of Offaly County Council and other public/community representatives have been invited to attend.

The purpose of the meeting is to examine the options available to secure the reopening of the three fire stations at Daingean, Banagher and Kilcormac. While the preferred option is for Offaly County Council to accept that an error has been made and immediately commence the process to reopen the three Fire Stations, a number of other possibilities are under consideration.

A Protest March will take place on Monday, June 20 to coincide with the AGM of Offaly County Council, when a new Chairperson will be elected. The Marchers will be leaving Market Square, Tullamore, at 12.15pm, to arrive at the offices of Offaly County Council at approximately 1pm, where a short rally will be held.
