The decision to offer a 12 month funding bridge worth €1.28 million to 30 health and disability charities operating under the Scheme to Support National Organisations (SSNO) has been welcomed by local Senator John Whelan
Senator Whelan said that Minister Alan Kelly’s ‘decisive action’ brings not only clarity and reassurance to the organisations, but also shows that in his new ministry he is bringing both head and heart to the Department of the Environment.
He commented, “While in straightened times, budgets must always be a factor due care must be given to those who badly rely on the services these organisations provide. The restoration of 12 months of funding offers a valuable window to identify if there is a duplication of services and put in place a stable funding stream.”
