Traffic lights mooted for ‘problem junction’

TRAFFIC lights could be installed at the junction with Collins Lane and Arden road in a bid to address ongoing safey issues, which has seen a number of incidents in the area recently.

TRAFFIC lights could be installed at the junction with Collins Lane and Arden road in a bid to address ongoing safey issues, which has seen a number of incidents in the area recently.

At Monday’s Tullamore Area committee meeting, Cllr Tommy McKeigue criticised the National Roads Authority [NRA] about the condition the junction has been left in. “I am not happy with that and I am very disappointed.”

Mr Charlie McCarthy, Senior Engineer, Offaly County, explined that the Council have been in touch with the national roads body on the issue and that the junction will be exiamined in the coming months in a bid to address the ongoing safety issues. “We are looking at signalising it,” he noted.

Cllr Sinead Dooley pointed out that “every dog on the street knows there is a problem with this junction” as she welcomed the NRA’s involvement in trying to address the situation.
