WORK on developing the extension of St Mary’s cemetery in Edenderry has got underway. The news has been welcomed by Edenderry Cllr Noel Bourke.

“With the burial places in the existing cemetery running low it is important that the new extension is ready when required and it has been for this reason that I have been asking the council to make a start on this work,” commented Cllr Bourke.

He explained that a section of the extension, which comprises two acres in all, will be developed initially with the remainder being developed in years to come.

“The council has prepared a layout for the extension and this involves ensuring that drainage is sufficient, surface finish is level and pathways are in place,” outlined Cllr Bourke who added that the entrance to it will be from the existing cemetery. He said that he will be monitoring progress on it to ensure that it will be ready when required.
