THE Health Service Executive should examine the need to set up a voluntary driver scheme to bring people to hospital appointments, according to one Tullamore Town councillor.
Cllr. Molly Buckley sought for the Town Council to write to the HSE regarding the need to set up a voluntary driver scheme to bring people to hospital appointments. The motion had been deferred from the March monthly meeting and since then, Cllr. Buckley said that she had carried out some research on the scheme.
She said that it happens in other counties and spoke to local groups and organisations, who would be interested in coming on board. She asked the Council to write to the HSE on the matter. “We need to let the HSE know the need for this scheme,” she maintained.
Cllr. Tommy McKeigue pointed out that a similar scheme had worked with the renal dialysis sector. “This is something that should be explored.”
