A €400,000 investment for a 16.8km cycle route from Tullamore to Moate has been announced.

The funding is part of a €7 million investment programme for the provision of cycle routes announced by Public Transport Minister, Deputy Alan Kelly, which will see an additional 334 km of cycleways being installed as part of the National Cycle Network.

“This is great news for all those who wish to take us cycling either as a pastime or for health reasons,” said Offaly Deputy Marcella Corcoran Kennedy, who added that these new cycling routes “underpin the commitment of the present Government to provide valuable transport and recreational infrastructure across the country.”

Deputy Corcoran Kennedy also added that future plans under the National Cycle Policy Framework include the provision of further cycle routes along rural roads and former national roads, as well as on off-road routes along former railway lines and canal tow paths.
