OFFALY’s fire services battled with a large bog fire outside Tullamore last weekend.
Crews from Tullamore were called to Wood of O, outside Tullamore after the blaze was spotted near the Ballycommon Road on Friday afternoon.
The Fire Services worked to quench the fire which took hold of bogland, adjacent to forestry until well into Friday evening and had to return to the scene to get the blaze under control on Saturday morning.
Even curious onlookers manager to capture some images of the blze on their mobile phones.
Clive Duke, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, said the crews attended the scene at around 3.30pm on Friday afternoon and left around 9pm that evening.
“We had to come back to on Saturday for a further hour and half,” the Assistant Fire Chief said adding that they were hampered at the scene by extremely dry weather and wind experienced last week.
