MORE people have the right to vote in Laois then in Offaly, according to the woman who will oversee the running of the poll in Laois/Offaly.
Figures supplied by Verona Lambe show that there are more than 108,000 eligible voters this time around which is up almost 6,000 on 2007. There are 56,331 people registered to vote in Laois and 51,827 in Offaly. This is a reverse on 2007 when Offaly had more voters.
Besides a postal voters ballot box, there are 201 polling stations in all, 100 in Laois and 101 in Offaly. Just over 400 presiding officers and polling clerks have been recruited.
There will be 80 counters and another 15 people approx between supervisors, security staff on duty at the Count Centre which is located at Unit G, Tullamore Retail Park, Cloncollog, Tullamore.
The counting of votes starts at 9am on Saturday, February 26 next
Voting on Friday runs from 7 am to 10 pm.
