GARDAI in Tullamore are questioning a man following a terrifying incident in the town on Monday night.
The man they are questioning is suspected of producing an imitation handgun and setting off fireworks at St Mary’s Youth Centre around 9pm.
It is understood that up to 50 children and staff were present at the time and were left distressed by the incident.
Once staff became aware of the situation they took the children, the majority of whom were teenagers, back into the building. The doors were locked and the gardai were called.
One man was arrested and a suspected imitation firearm was recovered.
