The mother of an 11-year-old girl who died after an incident in their home remains in intensive care at the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.
Local GP Dr Bernadette Scully (55) was rushed to the hospital on Saturday night along with her disabled daughter Emily after they had been discovered unconscious in the family home in the town. Emily was pronounced dead at the hospital later that evening.
A post-mortem examination was carried out in the hospital but that proved to be inconclusive. Gardai are not seeking to interview anyone else in connection with the girl’s tragic death. Toxicology tests are being carried out but it may be a considerable period of time before the results are known.
The mother and daughter girl were found in the house in the Bachelor’s Walk area of the town, also known as the New Road. An ambulance was called at about 9pm. The Garda Technical Bureau remianed at the scene on Monday morning carrying out forensic checks. State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy conducted the post-mortem examination.
