A male in his 20’s was arrested last night (Thursday, October 4) following a suspected fire bomb attack at Kilnacourt Woods estate in Portarlington.

The Garda press office confirmed that a car was damaged by fire in the Kilnacourt Woods estate and the male who was arrested is currently being detained at Portlaoise Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The incident happended in the same estate where criminal Gerard Eglington was violently gunned down in a gangland style murder last month.

Gerard Eglington, aged 27, was murdered in front of his children at his Kilnacourt Woods home last Monday week, September 24 at approximately 8.30am.

Earlier this week, as part of their ongoing investigation, Gardaí mounted road checkpoints to quiz motorists as to whether they’d seen anything suspicious on the morning of the murder.

Eglington was well known to Gardaí who said they were ‘keeping an open mind’ on the possibility of a retaliatory incident in Portarlington.
