FINAL preparation are being put in place for the first Clara St Patrick’s Festival weekend which will see the parade on Saturday and a family fun day and sports day on Sunday.
On Saturday the parade will be preceded by a concert which gets underway at 11.30am in the square with music by Davy, Joe, Clare Fallon and company and Irish dancing from Ollie Conroy dancers, St Joseph’s Youth Dancers from Streamstown and St malachy’s all girls set dancers from Castletown Geoghan.
Also performing will be Clara dancer Aideen Brennan, Aoife Robbins and Kelly Cunningham, the ageless eight from Rahan while Special Guest Dancers are the Celtic Blondes from Tyrrellspass. Special Guest singer is Mary O’Connor from Abbeylara who formally snag with Larry Cunningham and his band.
The parade will start at Charlestown Bridge at 12.30pm and will have a sporting feel as it will be opened by Michael Sheridan (Clara GAA Club), Joe Stanley (Clara Soccer Club) along with Jimmy Flattery, Clara’s longest serving postman.
Mcs for the day will be Rahan’s Joe Monaghan long with Clara’s Barry Flynn and Michelle Coyne.
As part of the festivities at 2pm at Brosna Park, there will be Aqua Spheres giving you the chance to walk on water.
The on Sunday in the Greenfield in Clara there will be a family fun day, of sport music and dance starting at 1.30pm. There will be something for all the family on what should be a very memorable and enjoyable day.
