OFFALY Macra na Feirme is launching their ‘Desperate Farmwives’ calendar for 2012 this evening (Wednesday, October 26) at 8.30pm in the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore.
The calendar, a twist on the popular television series ‘Desperate Housewives’ is the brainchild of the girls from Offaly Macra.
They set about thinking of a novel way to raise funds for their chosen charities Aware and Grow, two organisations endeavouring to combat depression and Ireland’s ever increasing rate of suicide.
Each month, together with the cover photograph, depicts the girls in various poses associated with farming in the 21st century. However, gone are the overalls and willies, only to be replaced by Karen Millen dresses and Jimmy Choos. It’s not every day you see a tractor being driven in such style.
The printing of the calendar was made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Tullamore business community and further afield, enabling all proceeds from the sale of the calendar to go directly to Aware and Grow, thus helping the charities increase awareness and raise the profile of mental health in the midlands.
You may purchase the calendar for €10 from committee members Ryan (086) 0715957) and Claire Walsh (086) 8895526 or e-mail email@example.com
The team behind the calendar project will also have a stand at the Queen of the Land Festival from November 13 - 15 in the Bridge House, Tullamore; The Bridge Centre, Tullamore on December 8 from 11am to 2pm and the Macra Rally in Cork from October 28 - 31.
