Driving ban for motorist caught at incredible speed in Offaly while already banned
A MAN drove at 133kph in an 80kph zone despite being banned from the road, Tullamore District Court heard.
A fine of €750, plus a three-year disqualification from driving, was imposed on Ben Standing (40), Cluain na Greine, Cloneygowan, Portarlington, by Judge Andrew Cody.
The court heard he was recorded travelling at a speed of 133kph on the R420 at Raheen in Offaly on February 4 last and though a fixed charge penalty notice was issued, it was unpaid.
Garda Mark Kenny said Mr Standing had already been disqualified for four years and was subject to a three-month suspended sentence for having no insurance and driving licence during the same incident on February 4.
Prior to that, he had convictions for having no insurance, drink-driving and dangerous driving and had been banned for six years.
Imposing the fine and additional disqualification, Judge Cody remarked that the accused had been driving at “huge speed” while disqualified.
