Three young women accused of assault in Offaly

THREE young women appeared before Tullamore District Court last week accused of assaulting another woman in Birr.

Judge Andrew Cody was told that the victim suffered bruising to her back, had her hair pulled and sustained a cut lip.

The injuries resulted in the alleged victim having to be brought to hospital in Tullamore.

Sergeant Richard Thornton said the DPP had directed that the prosecution of Ella Granger (18), High Street, Birr; Isabel O'Brien (19), The Heritage, Main Street, Birr and Kaleigh McDonagh (18), Cloncollig, Tullamore for assault causing harm to the woman could be disposed of summarily.

After hearing details of the injuries Judge Cody accepted jurisdiction, meaning the case will continue before the District Court.

All three are accused of assaulting Ramona Hanlon, causing her harm, at Market Square, Birr on July 20 last.

Donal Farrelly, solicitor, appeared for the three accused and the prosecutions were adjourned to a sitting of Tullamore District Court on October 18 next when either pleas will be entered by those accused or a date will be fixed for a hearing.
