The second Taste of Offaly event at the Tullamore Court hotel last Sunday was an outstanding success with over 1,000 people coming along on the day to sample the best of local produce.
There was everything on offer from cheese, organic vegetables, free range turkeys, organic porridge, handmade jams, chutneys, marmalade, sausages, organic beef and lamb, home baked breads, cakes, cupcakes as well as food from local restaurants, jewellery, handbags and shoes, wedding cakes and services.
There were also cookery demonstrations from local chef Yvonne Carty of Hey Pesto and Numb from Loughrey’s Bang Thai restaurant which were very well attended.
A Taste of Offaly was sponsored by JA Lumley & Son, supported by Offaly Local Development Company and co-ordinated by Midlands 103.
Managing Director of Midlands 103 Albert Fitzgerald said they were delighted with the public response on the day.
“The event was busy all day from 12 noon when it started until it closed at 6pm, and all the time there was a steady stream of people. The public response was fantastic especially to the cookery demonstrations which were packed to capacity.”
He added, “A Taste of Offaly is growing from strength to strength.”
Mr Fitzgerald concluded, “It is wonderful to see what great local produce there is, and now more than ever, it is important to support local enterprises. We have a wealth of the best quality food producers on our door step and this event was a great opportunity to showcase them all.”
