sellers ‘not safe’

THE issue of strawberry sellers selling fruit on roads around Tullamore was raised at last Thursday’s meeting of Tullamore Town Council.

THE issue of strawberry sellers selling fruit on roads around Tullamore was raised at last Thursday’s meeting of Tullamore Town Council.

“They have signage up that other businesses were told to take down because of IBAL and Tidy Towns. They are not rate payers and where they are is not safe,” said Cllr Tony McCormack.

He asked why was it being allowed to happen.

Director of Services Declan Kirrane said it was a nationwide issue and it was tolerated. He said he would check why they aren’t operational yet though.

Town Engineer Paul Devaney said that permission had been given by Mary Harney when she was Minister for Trade and Enterprise, for strawberry sellers to sell along the sides of the road.

He said he would look into it.
