Colourful street murals placed on buildings which have a commanding presence in town centres have become a popular addition to many towns across the country in recent years.
The art installations have been a great success in several towns in South Tipperary and in Thurles in recent years and soon the scheme will be extended towards Roscrea and Templemore.
District Administrator for the Municipal Council covering the Roscrea, Thurles and Templemore area, Sharon Scully, recently confirmed that Tipperary will receive more of the custom designed murals.
She told a meeting of the Municipal Council murals painted in Thurles were very positively received by the public and the programme will be extended to Templemore and Roscrea.
The Thurles murals were installed on Liberty Square and Old Baker Street last summer. They were designed by the Waterford-based artist collective, Street Art Ink.
Founder and Director of Street Art Ink, Edel Tobin, says they work with over 50 international street artists.
The project started in Waterford, and they work on community-led projects.
