Roscrea Speakers Club latest news

Roscrea Toastmasters club builds your confidence in public speaking

Roscrea Toastmasters club are seeking new members

Roscrea Speakers Club's latest meeting was on Thursday November 10 was a very enjoyable and entertaining affair. Distant members joined us on zoom from their own homes , and members attended in person in our meeting room in the Racket Hall Hotel.

The option of this new hybrid system is proving very popular with existing members and also encouraging guests to join our meetings and see for themselves the benefits our club can offer them both socially and in the workplace.

Toastmaster for the evening was Charles Hannon. Grammarian was Siobhan Bourke and Topicsmaster was Sean Dwan, who attended in person with Una and Diarmuid completing the rolls of grammarian and General evaluator respectively.

Our first speech was by John Carmody entitled 'Choose a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life'.

John's speech was encouragingly evaluated by Alan Coffey, who also made some positive suggestions on how to progress to the next level. Our second speech of the evening was presented by Edel Carey, entitled 'Password Protected' - a humorous speech which gave great entertainment and fun.

Edel's speech was evaluated by Larry Lyons, who acknowledged Edel's progress while making some positive sugestions.

Evaluations of our speeches are one of the ways that we learn from one another and grow in confidence at our club meetings. Our poem section, Sean's Corner, was provided by Tony Hoctor, who read a poem called 'The Blind Referee'.

Sean Dwan's topics session also proved challenging but entertaining . In this section we are challenged to speak on a given topic for two minutes with no chance to prepare our answers , just off the cuff , which helps us to practice thinking and speaking at the same time - which proves very helpful for social or work place meetings .

Our next meeting is on Thursday, November 24 in our normal meeting place Racket Hall Hotel at 8pm and also available on Zoom. Please feel free to call in to us or tune in on zoom to sample the fun.

If speaking in groups or to group is is challenging for you take that first brave step and come and see how that can change for you in a relaxed and learning atmosphere. Contact Larry on 086 8125427 or email roscreaspeakers2021 @gmail.com for further details or meeting link.
