It’s not always easy deciding what to gift a loved one on Valentine’s Day… especially if you’re torn between chocolates, flowers or gesture of affection.
But when it comes to the language of love, there’s no denying a celebratory tipple, chime of clinking crystal, and chance to enjoy the moment together is a sure-fire way to bring a smile to the face.
Whether you’re toasting with him or her, make 14 February a fizz-fest to remember with this fine stream of sparkle…
1. Prosecco Brut I Duecento, Italy, £9.75, The Wine Society
With its fruity, fresh, floral personality, prosecco is one the most popular sparkling wines – and this apple and pear-scented gem of a glass tastes wonderfully pristine, with a whisper of elderflower on the finish. Right on point with appetisers such as prosciutto and melon breadsticks.
2. Graham Beck Brut Rosé, South Africa, £17.50 (£12.50 mix six), Majestic
Flirty and lots of fun, if you’ve yet to hit on South Africa’s Cap Classique sparkling wines, you’re in for a real treat. Made in the same traditional method as champagne, award-winning producer Graham Beck is praised for its consistent quality. With delightful aromas of wild cherry and cranberry, opening into flavours of freshly crushed berries with a fresh, crisp character and streak of minerality.
3. Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference Brut Non-Vintage Champagne, France, £24.25 (£18.19 when you buy 3 or more with ‘Buy 3 Save 25%’ with Nectar, now until 14 Feb), Sainsbury’s
When it comes to award-winning, supermarket own-labels, you can’t beat this stylish sparkler made by Champagne Louis Kremer. A head-turner with its turquoise label and golden highlights, these radiant bubbles offer blossomy fruit entwined with citrus, fresh peach and toasty, biscuity note, leading to a delightfully fresh finish. Definitely a keeper, scan your nectar and bag three.
4. Louvel Fontaine Champagne Rosé Brut, France, £22 (was £25), Asda
A really gorgeous rosé and enticing from word go, the beguiling bouquet of fresh berry fruits, hints of rose petals and strawberry shortbread nuances delivers what it promises on the palate. Fresh, fruity and food-friendly, think a retro prawn cocktail, soft creamy cheeses, or strawberry tarts.
5. Leckford Estate Brut 2021, English Sparkling Wine, £25 (until March 3, was £35), Waitrose
Leading English wine producer Ridgeview Estate is behind these vintage bubbles made from classic Champagne grape varieties – and teases the palate with lots of bright freshness and racy acidity. With a wonderfully fruit core of green apple, peach and lemon, it’s both creamy and toasty with hints of roasted nuts, and citrusy twang on the flourish of a finish.
6. Nyetimber Multi-Vintage Rosé, England, £47, Ocado
A trailblazer in English sparkling wine, head winemaker Cherie Spriggs won Sparkling Winemaker of the Year for the second time at the International Wine Challenge 2025 – and this rosé will charm the pants off pink wine lovers. Elegant with attractive aromas of summer berry fruits and hint of hedgerow fruit; flavours of fresh raspberry, redcurrant, cherry and spice come into play, touch of shortcrust pastry, creamy texture, and lingering silky finish.
