Anger as sewage overflows onto road in Offaly estate
Offaly county councillor Clare Claffey has expressed her anger as raw sewage overflowed onto a housing estate in Banagher.
The Social Democrats councillor said that there was "sewage on the road and footpaths in Portavolla, Banagher yet again.
"I was informed by Offaly County Council that a tanker would be sent out last Thursday to clean this up and the residents are still waiting. It is a public health issue and needs to be addressed as soon as possible," she added.
"It's all well and good cleaning this in the short term, but Offaly County Council needs to look at a long term solution to this issue.
"I can't count how many times I've raised this since I was elected and still nothing has been done.
"This estate has had issues with flooding and sewage every year since it was built. That doesn't come as a surprise since it was built on a flood plain," she claimed.
