The restoration work carried out on a historic bridge in Kinnitty is much appreciated by the public
The renovation of the beautiful, historic suspension bridge in Offaly has been met with universal approval.
The Offaly Heritage Officer Amanda Pedlow told a recent Council meeting that the bridge in Kinnitty had been in a bad, rundown condition for many years but the Council decided to tackle the problem last year.
She pointed out that this suspension bridge is one of Offaly's treasures and it's heartening to see it looking so well once more.
Amanda added that there had been a massive response from the public to the work.
“A lot of people are commenting on it,” she remarked. “A lot of people are saying to us what a great job it is.
“When we posted a picture of the renovated bridge on our facebook page there was a lot of commentary about it. Many people said they often walk by the bridge and were delighted to see it looking so well now.”
The suspension bridge was built by the Bernard family in the 19th Century and was part of their Kinnitty Castle estate. It crosses the River Camcor and is now part of a very popular and picturesque Coillte forestry trail.
