Councillor Declan Harvey has called for bus shelters to be installed on William Street in Tullamore
THE Cathaoirleach of Tullamore Municipal District, Councillor Tony McCormack cautioned Councillor Declan Harvey to be careful what he wished for following a request from Cllr Harvey for ''unseated bus shelters'' at bus stops on William Street on both sides of the road in Tullamore.
Speaking at the monthly meeting Cllr Harvey said: ''I know the weather has been good but we are coming into the winter. When the shops are closed there is nowhere to stand in out of the rain. Does the council provide them or the bus operators provide them?'' he asked.
Responding senior executive engineer John Connelly said the National Transport Authority supplies bus shelters, ''we will look into that,'' he said.
''Be careful what you wish for,'' advised Councillor Tony McCormack. ''They might answer a lot of problems and cause a lot. We need to be careful where they are located. Even unseated ones cause problems,'' added Cllr McCormack.
Bus shelters have been known to attract anti-social behaviour and are often covered in graffiti. If not constantly maintained they can also become an eyesore.
