Shane Lowry already being backed to win second major title
Shane Lowry will be the toast of some local punters if he adds to his major collection next year after they already invested in the Offaly man adding to the Open Championship he won in July.
Lowry dominated the final major of the year at Royal Portrush in July to break his major duck and lift the Claret Jug, but BoyleSports are already taking bets on him getting back into the winners’ enclosure in 2020.
The Open champion has seen his odds on winning a second major next year cut this week into 12/1 from 14/1, making him more likely to add to his haul than previous major winners like Louis Oosthuizen, Webb Simpson and Phil Mickelson who are all 14/1 to add to their collections.
Tommy Fleetwood, who was runner-up to Lowry at Portrush, is 13/2 to win his maiden major next year, with Rory McIlroy (15/8), Justin Rose (7/2) and Jon Rahm (4/1) the only Europeans given a better chance than the Englishman.
A handful of punters have an even more optimistic outlook for Shane Lowry in 2020 having snapped up the 300/1 that he can win two or more of the four major championships next year.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Maybe some of the locals are still toasting Shane Lowry’s heroics two months later, but we’re seeing a good bit of support for him to win another big one next year and we’ve already had to cut him into 12/1 from 14/1.”
