UPDATE: Man in his 50s killed in Offaly road crash

A man in his 50s has been killed in a crash in Offaly today, Friday, June 14.

Gardaí and Emergency Services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 10.50am.

The accident happened at Clonmeen Cross Road near Rhode Village, County Offaly. 

A male pedestrian in his 50s who was out walking at the time was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the car, another male in his 60s, was taken to hospital with injuries.

The road between Rhode and Mount Lucas is currently closed and diversions are in place. Forensic Crime Scene Investigators are at the scene and the local coroner has been notified.
