Offaly parish priest handed new role in diocese

Tullamore's parish priest, Fr Joe Gallagher, has been handed a new role within the Diocese of Meath.

Fr Joe Gallagher has been appointed to the position of Vicar General in addition to Fr. Declan Hurley, Navan. He will remain the parish priest in Tullamore.

There are changes afoot in Tullamore Parish, however, with popular priest Fr Shane Crombie making the move from the town to Navan.

Fr Gallagher will work closely with Bishop Thomas Deenihan in his role as Vicar General and will assist the Bishop in the Governance of the Diocese.

He will also act as a Trustee of the Diocese in the role.

Following the departure of Fr Shane, Fr Fergal Cummins will join the parish in Offaly from Drogheda.

The changes are effective from June 17.
