Sadness as Polish grocery shop closes in Tullamore

Sadness has been expressed after the closure of Polish grocery shop Kordi in Tullamore.

The small outlet supplied traditional Polish products to the growing community in Tullamore but closed its doors in recent days, a sad occasion according to local election candidate for the town, Ken Smollen.

Ken thanked the owner Kinga Siernicka for "generously donating" supplies of non-perishable food to his Food Appeal which aims to help those living in poverty in Offaly and the other Midland counties.

The store's final act was to donate non-perishable food left over to Ken to help his cause, something Ken says he is extremely grateful for.

The news comes as a blow following the closure of the Cash N Carry in Tullamore in recent months, another regular contributor to Ken's appeal.
