Cowen to meet with RehabCare to discuss future
Fianna Fáil TD for Offaly, Barry Cowen, is set to meet with senior officials from RehabCare in support of their request for help from the Government.
Deputy Cowen, who has written to the Minister for Finance asking that every effort be made to resolve the funding issues, said that services to over 3,000 vulnerable clients will be put at risk if a resolution is not found.
He explained, “I will meet with RehabCare officials to discuss what it is they need from Government to allow them to continue providing their services across the country. As things stand RehabCare are prepared to terminate its entire care services due to ongoing significant under-funding."
“At the crux of the issue is a shortfall of around €2 million in funding and the reasons for this include the increased cost of taking care of people as they age, the costs associated with HIQA and HSE regulatory requirements and the rising insurance costs."
“Not only are the clients of RehabCare at risk but so too are the 1,500 staff which they employ across the country. We have all been the benefactors of the great work done by RehabCare in Offaly. Their work with the Tidy Towns and other initiatives have contributed to communities everywhere."
“I would like to see a resolution to this matter as quickly as possible. I have been contacted by numerous service users and their family members who are worried as to what the future might hold,” he concluded.
