Offaly's 1982 All-Ireland winning manager passes away

Eugene McGee during the recent Players Of The Faithful documentary

Offaly's 1982 All-Ireland winning manager Eugene McGee has passed away this morning, Sunday, May 5.

A former Sunday Tribune journalist and Longford Leader editor, McGee crowned his GAA career by leading Offaly to that 1982 win over Kerry.

McGee recently spoke of that famous victory, which denied Kerry five All-Ireland titles in a row, on the Players of the Faithful documentary on RTE television over Christmas.

It's understood McGee died overnight having taking ill at a family event.

He will be remembered today, the day Offaly GAA launches a 1982 replica jersey in Faithful Fields, as the man who led those Faithful charges to Croke Park to retrieve the impossible.
