Permission refused for eight new townhouses in Tullamore

An application to demolish an apartment building to make way for the construction of new townhouses in Tullamore has been refused by Offaly County Council.

Kraymount Properties has sought permission to demolish an existing two-storey building on Church Street in Tullamore to allow for the construction of the new dwellings.

The site is located beside the Tullamore river and adjacent to Kelly's Toymaster.

The plan was to construct eight, one bedroom, three-storey, terraced townhouses. The provision of car parking spaces was also part of the plans.

A decision to refuse the application was made on three fronts. The elevation was considered "bland and repetitive" and there "visually incongruous; OCC feared the development could result in surface water and the water disposal plans lodged lacked detail; a minimum of 20 sq. metres of open space required under the Tullamore and Environs Developments Plan 2010 to 2016 was not provided.
